January 12th 1918, Disaster at Sea.
Two ships of the Royal Navy were lost on the shores of South Ronaldsay in harsh conditions at the beginning of 1918. Here at the Fossil and Heritage Centre in Burray we are pleased to host the Book of Remembrance which lists the 188 sailors who perished along with the sole survivor. This is just one of many displays in the Heritage Gallery showing how both world wars touched the lives of Orkney islanders.
